My Story

The Black Eagle Brewery, built in 1730, was the first piece of Westerham’s rich beer heritage.

The brewery closed in 1965 when the head brewer, Bill Wickett, brewed 3 barrels of Special Bitter Ale for the last beer. To preserve the yeast from the brewery, Bill deposited it at the National Collection of Yeast Cultures.

Forty years later, Westerham's head brewer, mashed in 12 barrels of that same 1965 Special Bitter Ale brewed with the Black Eagle yeast, reviving the last beer of Kent's best brewery.
