In 1965, the same year the Black Eagle Brewery closed, Fritz Maytag purchased the failing Anchor Brewing Company in San Francisco. The revived brewery was the genesis of the craft brewing scene in the USA and one of the last producers of Steam Beer, also known as Californian Common. The brewery closed in 2023 and we brewed our homage to this great beer the following year. California Common, a malty amber beer style of the gold rush in California, is brewed with lager yeast at higher temperatures than normal producing fruity ester flavours with a crisp hop bitterness.
