My Story
In Tudor times, the Manor of Westerham was bought by the Gresham family. This mercantile family’s crest was a grasshopper. This symbol adorns the weather vane above the Royal Exchange founded by Sir Thomas Gresham in 1565 and can be found at the site of a goldsmiths owned by Sir Thomas, dated 1563.
It is also the symbol of the Grasshopper on the Green in Westerham, a loyal customer of the Westerham Brewery since its foundation in 2004.
